Is this an absolute necessity or can I do the printing straight out of photoshop? If I need rip software what is the best product. Also I do not know anything about rip software. Wondering if the profiles will most likely cross over well or whether I may be in for a lot of tweaking to get the images right. I am concerned that it may take a lot of work to get the prints to match what the 9600 is producing which in my opinion are excellent quality prints. Current person doing the giclees is using Epson 9600 and using a Mac.

Have decent amount of experience with photoshop (using cs3 would it be better to upgrade to cs5?). I am an artist considering the Epson 9900 for giclees. Upgrading your Photoshop (IMHO) would be a waste of money ! Take a look at QIMAGE (free sample) and very inexpensive for registered copy. Might be great for posters etc but not artistic reproductions. Printing mostly photos, I have no need of this. My understanding is the RIP software in conjunction with the RIP computer converts the image to "Postscript" which will reduce the jaggies on text. I have RIP software and a separate RIP computer with the printer but never use it. I only use QIMAGE which is far superior (IMHO)
I have a Epson pro 9000 (dye inks) and an Epson pro 10000 (Pigment inks) First, I am only an amateur and use a PC.
